The first two core values of Samuel Merritt are intertwined, and directly build on each other. Interpersonal communication is a necessity for effective teamwork, and conversely teamwork builds interpersonal communication. When working as a nursing assistant, both teamwork and interpersonal communication played major roles in my everyday job, from interacting with patients on their activities of daily life to reviving someone with a team of coworkers in a high pressure cardiac arrest situation. These core values are integral to patient care, and without them someone’s life could be dramatically altered or ended.
