Parents and children have a special connection together. Parent and child’s relationship are really important because that is what that puts the child in a good life. Parents/child relationship sometimes can be complicated, and they can not understand each other, but at the end they are together due to their special relationship. “Only Daughter” is an essay by Sandra Cisneros about her relationship with her father, and “Public and Private Language” is an essay by Richard Rodriguez about how they had to learn a new language. The first essay was about one girl that talks about her family and her writing. Sandra tells how being the only daughter affected her life. Her father saw college for girls as a chance for girls to find a husband. She wanted it to write for her father as an example “In a sense, everything I have written has been for him, to win his approval even though I know my father can’t read English words...” (Cisneros 1). She wanted to impress her father with her writing talent. Her book got translated into Spanish, so she takes a book to his dad so she can get his approval. She eventually reads her book to her father who liked the book.
