Sandra Cisneros born in December 20, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois. Cisneros’s parents had eight children, and among them, Cisneros was the only woman. She lived most of her childhood moving from one place to another, from Chicago to Mexico several times. Cisneros being a more independent writer, she started to travel at different parts of the country crossing the geographic and cultural borders (Pearsce 1). Cisneros one of the Hispanic- American contemporary writers most successful worldwide, writes her life through her writings. The inspiration for Sandra Cisneros to write The house on Mango Street was her own life experience. “Richard Rodriguez's Days of Obligation (1992) and Sandra Cisneros's The House on Mango Street (1984) both employ the house as the master metaphor for the construction of identity” (Kaup 363).
