The Sandy Hook school shooting was one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S history. It occurred on December 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut. 20-year-old Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children between six and seven years old, along with six adult staff members. As soon as this happened the government immediately tried to enact gun laws to prevent similar events from happening. Even though this is a touchy subject for the families that lost a child, conspiracies about this shooting are still popping up around the internet(Wood, Michael). Some question the identity of the shooter, how many shooters were there, what guns they used, and whether or not there was even a shooting at all. This one notes that Adam Lanza, the accused shooter, was declared dead on December 13, 2012, the day before the shooting. Also, Nancy Lanza was confirmed dead on December 14 of 2012, the day they knew she died. This information was confirmed in the Social Security Death Index at the time. The point that the conspiracy theorists are getting at is that if Lanza died on December 13, there is no way how he could have done the shooting. Once they thought about it, they eventually came to believe that he did die on the 13th, and the government picked him to be the fake shooter. From here they wondered if there was even a shooting at all, and concluded that the government was hiding something if they didn't want the public to know the real shooter was. After skimming over this information, it can be easy to agree with the conspirators. But, after some digging into the topic, it will be found that government employees at the local, state, and federal level are not known for their perfection and accuracy. For instance, between May 2007 and April 2010, more than 36,000 people were reported dead by the Social Security Administration even though they were still alive.
