Mr. Rainsford was forced to kill General Zaroff in order to survive. General Zaroff trapped

victims in his basement for days, and then hunted them for sport. This can be proven by the

sailors that were found down in basement along with some hunting material. To make sure no

sailors escaped by boat, Zaroff strategically placed jagged spikes at the bottom of the channel.

These spikes put holes in boats and destroyed them.

General Zaroff was part of a special Russian military unit known as the Cossacks. These

men were known to be fierce, ready to kill, and independent. They often followed their own
