Minny is such an extremely sassy woman that adds a wonderful comic relief to an overall depressing story. She had such a great dynamic relationship with Abeline that provided a deep background between the two without having to detail it. Her uncontrolled sass is what gets her fired from multiple jobs. She doesn't have any sort of a filter and just sort of says the first thing that comes to mind. In the film she uses her sass to interact with the clueless Celia Foote.
Minny and Abeline are shown to be great friends in the movie, so far as that Minny just walks into Abeline's house without even knocking. A friendship like this is perfectly demonstrated by the two poking fun at each other nonchalantly. This provides a background between the two

While her sass can be beneficial like with Abeline, this is a scenario where her sass needs to be kept in check. This, unlike her cooking skills and sense of humor, is a skill she does not have. She doesn't know when to stop and often goes over the line with her white bosses.
In the film Minny and Celia Foote have a close relationship. The reason they work together so well is because Minny is Foote's first maid, and Foote doesn't know that Minny should have to be proper and respect her at all times. In the film she even goes as far as to prepare a large dinner for her and Johnny Foote, something that Hilly would have never even considered.
Minny's sass adds a lot to both the film and the book. The story has a very dark overtone, so she adds a playful undertone. Minny and Abeline's interactions provide a deep sense of connection between the watcher of the film and the characters because comedy is something that they can relate to. Minny's sass is what makes her who she is, whether that is good or bad. Minny and Celia Foote have a deep level of connection in Film, and that is strengthened by Minny's playful sass with
