Ten acres of coquina rock along the Atlantic Ocean exposed only at low-tide comprise Satellite Beach. The broken coquina shelf and sand compose the tan colored beach base which differs from many of Florida’s white sand beaches. The brilliant blue-green water laps the shore. And, the fossils of Atlantic ghost crabs mix among the landscape for visitor discovery.

Satellite Beach, Florida in Brevard County is located on an Intracoastal Waterway. The Atlantic Ocean falls to the east and the Indian River to the west of this barrier island location. Satellite remains a classic family beach with Atlantic Ocean views.

Part of the North American Atlantic shoreline, this area experiences a lower number of catastrophic hurricanes than other Florida beaches.

Average highs in the upper 80s (F) through the summer and low 60s to 70s in the winter provide temperate weather. Warm ocean breezes and more than 340 days of sunshine make for a pleasurable visit to any of the Satellite Beach sands.

FAUNA AND FLORA
Several endangered species call Satellite Beach home. Loggerhead sea turtles and endangered green sea turtles nest on Satellite Atlantic Ocean beaches. Endangered North Atlantic right whales give birth in the waters just off the shore. And, endangered West Indian manatees move along the shores of the Banana River.

In fact, Samsons Island Nature Park is working to design and implement programs to preserve desirable wildlife habitats. Currently, this park houses 42 relocated gopher tortoises. A great stop for those visiting Satellite Beach.
