The high misconduct rate among adolescents has aroused a wide social concern. In order to control and reduce the future misconduct rate, many experts prefer to use adolescent risk assessments to predict the possibilities of future crimes. As one major form of risk assessments, Structured Assessment of Violence Risk in Youth (SAVRY) is highly employed. The result can be particularly important because it gives a certain guidance about whether the subject should be enrolled in intervention programs for reform or being controlled as a criminal (Viljoen, Grey, and Barone in press, n.d.). SAVRY has 24 risk factors and 6 protective factors, and one risk factor is the poor school achievements (SAVRY, n.d.). Although poor school achievements can be caused by various reasons, this factor is more likely to be linked with disadvantaged adolescents rather than their advantaged contemporaries. The poor school achievement among disadvantaged adolescents is often caused by the unfair treatment as the effect of self-fulfilling prophecy. Self-fulfilling prophecy, also referred as negative expectancy effect, meant that one person’s inaccurate expectations and misperceptions could result in the target person to act in the way that was matched with the false beliefs (Sorhagen, 2013). In this situation, unfair treatments were often involved to cause the poor performance of the target people. For instance, if a teacher held a certain negative expectation to a certain student and paid less help, attention, and guidance to him/her, it was no surprise that the student did poorly in schooling setting.
