Schlosser's Repetition-Personal Narrative

In the nonfiction text, Schlosser uses repetition to emphasize the meaning of the quote. He repeats the word over and over so it can stick with the reader. An article says, “Repetition works well because it helps your brain solidify connections that are used to recall memories. When you learn something new, your brain instantly attempts to associate it with something that you already know through a process of assimilation” (Jack). This means that repetition helps individuals remember things easier. Knowing this, Schlosser made a great decision to use this rhetorical device. They are made in factories, then frozen and shipped. Then the employees heat up the food and serve it to the customers. They do this process before the customers come in, so the customers will not be aware of the food they are consuming being frozen or not. Schlosser also emphasizes changes happening in the city, Pueblo. He expressed, “New things now seem to appear every month, new roads around the Pueblo Mall, new movie theaters, a new Applebee’s an Olive Garden, a Home Depot, a great big Marriot” (Schlosser 92). He is stressing the fact that the city is changing because new buildings are being built all through the town. The fast food industry and other companies are transforming the town from a rural to an urban city. This not only happened to Pueblo, but it is happening still, to this day. Farms are being knocked down so new companies or fast food restaurants can be built in their place. People are so used to eating fast food all the time, so the fast food industry has enough money to build more and more buildings. This is unacceptable for our country because people are getting lazy about many things like cooking, so they are going to eat at a place that serves foods that will ruin their
