Nowadays, it is not uncommon for schools to begin as early as 8:00 am. Millions of children and teens each day struggle to break their slumber and arrive to school at around 7:30 am. In addition, teachers would have to arrive to school before 7:00 am., even after they have been grading assignments for hours each night. Alternatively, many schools have started opening their doors at 8:30 am. and starts education time at 9:00 am. This would be a huge improvement for students and teachers alike because students and teachers would have an extra hour of sleep each night, students would be more focused in class and would be less likely to fall asleep in class, and students and teachers could indulge in a nice breakfast before school begins.

Adults and teens alike tend to fall asleep around 10:30 pm. On the other hand, children tend to fall asleep around 8:00 pm. or 9:00 pm. This being said, adults and teens would only get about 7 hours of sleep if they wake up at 6:00 am. Similarly, children would get about 9 hours of slumber. According to Nationwide Children adolescents need approximately 9 hours of sleep each night. Sleep deprivation is not uncommon in teens who attend schools that begin at 8:00

This dilemma has caused students to pay less attention during the first few hours of school. Consequently, if this continues students would lack the knowledge needed to pass the annual standardized tests. Sadly, those tests are a crucial aspect in earning your GED. If we began school at a later hour, students would be less likely to fall asleep in class. Students would be more aware of their surroundings without being "walking zombies" in their first course of the day. In fact, students would be more likely to learn more information because their brain would be more adapt to the scenario they are placed
