Discussion:
Colligative properties are physical properties of a substance that are affected by the number of particles but not affected by the type of particles mixed into it; one of the main colligative properties is boiling point elevation: this consist when the boiling point of a substance is increased to a hotter temperature because something was mixed into the substance. To test this theory, different amounts of salt were added to water and the temperature of the water was measured as it was boiled in a hot plate. As predicted by the theory of boiling point elevation, the boiling point was the hottest when the largest amount of salt was added to the water. When 90 grams of salt was added to water, the boiling point of water was 92°C exceeding the normal boiling point of water in the experiment; based in the experiment taken. Mentioned above the boiling point elevation depends on the amount of salt is added to the water, the more salt the more the boiling point was increased.
Similarly, the boiling point of water with 30 grams of salt were added to the beaker ‘‘A’’, had a higher temperature than the beaker with pure water, but was lower than the beaker with more salt added. Successfully, this was predicted based on the theory of boiling point.
Some possible errors in this experiment were how the temperature was taken. Because at the time that were taken the temperature, it was difficult to place the thermometer directly above the amount of salt without touching a
