My Reflection on Scientific Underpinnings The Nursing profession of today and in preparation for nursing in the next generation has called for upgrading in advanced practice nursing education to a higher degree (Cronenwett, Dracup, Grey, McCauley, Meleis, & Salmon, 2011). In 2004, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) gave approval for the preparation of all Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) in Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program (Potempa, 2011). The scientific underpinnings of this education show the intricacy of practice at the doctoral level and the rich tradition that is the theoretical base of nursing (Melnyk, 2013). I completed my undergraduate and graduate program through a traditional classroom method of learning which I will refer to as my comfort zone. In contrary, pursuing my DNP degree through the online route is challenging to me. This is because the weekly lessons often require a great deal of reading, writing, discussions, and enquiring questions that sometimes form a bit of perceptual hesitancy for me. I was skeptical of taking the online classes, with escalated anxiety about what the outcome might become; I questioned myself several times about my decision of going back to school through the online base class. My anxiety level heightened on the first week of the lecture. My heightened anxiety level was lowered when my lecturer; Dr Reed responded to my email about the discussion and expectations for the week. As the week passes by, I learned from other students, the lecturers, and my personal researches and reading. I know that I have gained a lot so far in the scientific underpinnings class, I learned about the different models in nursing and other fields, evidenced based nursing and practices…… to PICOT
