Immediately, a description of the bug known as a scorpion. A scorpion is a type of arachnid. It is possible to think of an arachnid as an eight legged bug. Arachnids have eight legs and eight eyes. Other arachnids include spiders, mites, ticks, etc. But scorpions are unique in many ways. Scorpions live in many places, live in many ways, eat many things, and defend themselves with a lethal force.
First and foremost, scorpions are everywhere in all parts of the world. Scorpions live in many places. These include “South America, Australia, the Himalayas, North America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East” (McGavin 213) and many other places. Scorpions feed on many creatures, “mainly on soft-bodied insects”, while “the larger varieties will eat smaller lizards and snakes” (Prettyman). Smaller scorpions, like the deathstalker, mainly prey on creatures the size of a cricket or smaller, while larger scorpions, like the emperor or king scorpion, eat creatures the size of a snake or a lizard. Scorpions are extremely sensitive to touch and are lightning fast so they can capture their prey because “when they come upon an insect, they will grab it and sting it and then pull it under a rock and consume it” (Suedmeyer) before it has the opportunity to escape. Scorpions survive in their environment better than other insects because they have a “metabolic rate slower than that of any other invertebrate. This ability allows them to survive in extremely harsh conditions and endure for a year without eating” (Angier). This is also a reason they can live longer than other insects as well.
