The Scottish government has released several proposals concerning citizenship in case of independence, resulting in the following conclusions: On day one of independence, every Scottish-born British citizen will automatically be a Scottish citizen, regardless of them being habitually resident in Scotland or outside of it. Children who were born to at least one Scottish parent in independent Scotland would also automatically be Scottish citizens, yet their birth would have to be registered in Scotland in order to take effect. Aside from being born in Scotland, several other aspects would enable one to register as a Scottish citizen, for example: A British national living outside of Scotland would have to prove that at least one parent has qualified
