A psychological disorder is a mental disorder or illness that has a psychological or behavioral pattern connected with distress or a disability that occurs within an individual. These disorders are usually not a part of the normal development or culture. Psychological disorders are generally the result of many factors in life. One example of a psychological disorder is depression. Depression is a mood disorder characterized by loss of interest, sadness, hopelessness, loss of appetite, disturbed sleep, and other physical symptoms. Depression takes different forms but usually involves discouragement and can also include a feeling of sadness and hopelessness, trouble concentrating or making decisions, and a loss of pleasure in doing usual activities.
One type of depression is seasonal affective disorder (SAD). This type of disorder is a mood disorder that is characterized by seasons, it usually occurs during the winter, when there is less daylight, and then improves with the spring and the summer. This disorder begins during the adolescence years or in early adulthood. Like most forms of depression, it occurs more in women than in men. Symptoms of SAD are generally built during the late autumn and winter months. The symptoms of depression and SAD are typically similar. Symptoms include increased appetite with weight gain, increased sleep and daytime sleepiness, social withdrawal, and unhappiness and irritability. A physician or psychologist may diagnosis this condition by asking detailed questions, about your mood, your lifestyle and social situation, and sleeping and eating patterns.
