Sears Holding Corporation

As a current Employee of Sears, I felt this was a great opportunity to relate what I’ve learned from management principles to what goes on in Sears. As such, the information will be a mix of both personal experience and references from Sears and other sources.
The Sears Holding Corporation is a leading integrated retailer with almost 2,500 full-line and specialty retail stores in the United States and Canada and the home of Shop Your Way, a social shopping experience where members have the ability to earn points and receive benefits across a wide variety of physical and digital formats through ShopYourWay.com. Sears Holdings is the leading home appliance retailer as well as a leader in tools, lawn and garden, fitness equipment and automotive repair and maintenance.
Key proprietary brands include Kenmore, Craftsman and DieHard, with a broad apparel offering, including such well-known labels as Lands' End, the Kardashian Kollection, Jaclyn Smith and Joe Boxer, as well as Sofia by Sofia Vergara and The Country Living Home Collection. We are the nation's largest provider of home services, with more than 14 million service and installation calls made annually, and have a long-established commitment to those who serve in the military through initiatives like the Heroes at Home program.
They have been named the 2011 Mobile Retailer of the Year, Recipient of the 2013 ENERGY STAR® " Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award" for Product Retailing and Energy Management and was named one of the Top 20 Best Places to Work for Recent Grads. Sears Holdings Corporation operates through its subsidiaries, including Sears, Roebuck and Co. and Kmart Corporation.
Sears’s management style is similar to that of many retail chains. There are the associates above them are MCA and Leads next comes ASM(assistant store manager) then the store manager. This is within each full-line store. The chain of commands continues upwards from out the store towards the corporate side from the district manager all the way to the CEO.

Communication

How a company receives and sends information whether to its employees or its customer, having an effective means of communication is important. How a manager communicates with his team how information is pass down through the chain of command, even how important information is passed on to the consumers. Communication is a key facet in business and management.

Sears boasts many forms of communication within the company. They have like, many companies, an intranet where weekly updates, information and communication are shared. They also have a recently added social network type site called pebble allows the company to share their thoughts and ideas with one another. Pebble allows for a Rich communication channel between various personnel within Sears. Everyone can voice their concerns, questions or comments immediately in a more informal format to even the CEO of Sears.

ASMs are in charge of different departments whether on the floor or in the warehouse. There are also leads within each team which can also do a few managerial duties. The separation of managers into different teams allows better communication and team cohesion. Since each departments has their own manager and lead this allows room for both upward and downward communication. Associates can voice their thoughts and concerns directly to their Manager or if the issue can be handle by a lead. Though Sears has similar corporate structure this form of managerial structure allows for better communication versus having a localized manager for every department.
The best way to describe the type of communication most used in sears would likely be an all-channel network. Associates and store managers can all communicate directly to each other, even with district managers to a lesser degree. Though communication within-store can be a bit
