Once the first industrial revolution ended, the second industrial revolution has started bringing more manufacturing and electricity use, as well as, technology production. Production such as cars, engines, and weapons that produced rising emission of toxic metals, as well as carbon dioxide emission. Cars and trucks, especially the one in the United States produced a large amount of carbon dioxide. From cars, we developed sport utility vehicles (SUV). SUV contribute significantly to global warming, by emitting more carbon dioxide than cars do. SUV contribute more to the greenhouse effect, which increases the Earth’s surface temperature. According to Club, SUV spews out 43 percent more global warming pollution than an average car. All cars emit a large amount of carbon dioxide that get trapped in the atmosphere; however, SUV emits a larger …show more content…
Hence, we make choices that affect the environment when we choose what kind of vehicle we want to drive. On the other hand, SUV drivers might look at it from a different point of view. A private investor named Sal Rosken claims that environmentalists who are against SUV are in fact, against industrialization and capitalism. He contends that environmentalists target SUVs as a symbolic step toward returning humans to a preindustrial way of life. Vehicles are one of the greatest inventions of the second industrial revolution. They have pros and cons; however, we can avoid some of the cons by choosing the one that emits less carbon dioxide. We also can avoid some of the cons by riding bicycles instead of driving to near distance places. By doing that, we’d slow down the greenhouse gases emissions which are the main reason for global warming. Choosing the type of car to drive is not the only way to reduce greenhouse gases emissions, there are other ways to reduce the emissions and stop the global
