Secret codes were often used in wars. The passage, Navajo Code Talkers, the article, “American Indians in the United States Army”, and the passage “What’s So Special About Secret Codes?”, all inform the reader about the use of secret codes. Each author uses different information to convey the purpose of their writing. First off, the passage, Navajo Code Talkers, informs the reader about how the Navajo created secret codes. The author informs how Navajos were not told anything. The text states, “The Navajo code project was top secret, so the Navajos didn’t know they were signing up to be code talkers." This quote shows how the Navajos joined even without knowing why. The author also informs how the code was created. Also stated in the passage, “...Use our language to come up with words representing each letter, from A to Z…”. This shows how the Navajos had to come up with a code on their own.
