Due to Steven Herrick’s childhood interests and family experiences today, the poem “Seeing the World” portrays the importance of family and the lessons that can be learned throughout life. First of all, Herrick had and still has a deep love for soccer and the outdoors, which is shown in his poetry. The main interests of Herrick, “Hobbies and other interests: Playing soccer, coaching youth soccer.” ("Steven Herrick."). In the poem “Seeing the World”, many references to nature and its beauty are made; some include the trees, the birds, and the sky above. The poem, in the beginning, also shows a lot of activity and movement, such as climbing on the rooftops and a ladder.
