Love, a powerful word that is used in the daily lives of people around the world. Love is the intense feeling of affection for something. In the play, “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare, a pair of star-crossed lovers, each from two families of foes, takes their own life. Romeo and Juliet’s love began with a random encounter that causes them to secretly marry each other. Before they can reveal their love to their families and finally end the feud, they face challenges that finally cause them to take their own lives away. In the play “Romeo and Juliet”, selflessness is the characteristic of love that most effective displayed in the play. Juliet fears the possibility that the vile might kill her or not work and in the end she would have to marry Paris or take her own life, which she was willing to do. However, the moment the thought that Tybalt is coming for Romeo, Juliet drink the vile without hesitation to protect Romeo. Her actions emphasize how willing she was to risk her own life to ensure that Romeo is protected because of her love for her. Juliet is not the one to put other above herself because of her love, Romeo have also shown selflessness through his action for Juliet.
