Selma Alabama Reflection

The first time I ever heard about Selma was learning about a famous, Georgia native, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Approximately 250 miles north of Selma is my hometown, Canton, Georgia. Coming to Selma, Alabama may or may not be the best decision of my life, but just like the hero in the movie, I’m committed to endeavoring my goals. Ending up at Concordia was never a part of my plan coming out of high school. However, I am here because of my family, tragedies, and to simply chase my dream.
In Canton, Georgia my family were the first blacks there. I have a very big family, a very united family, and a very crazy family. At the age 11 experienced something, through the man who practically raised me. To be the first African Americans in our area you’d think we’d have something entitled to us there; but we don’t. My great Grandfather, who is now deceased owned a very large portion of Canton. He lost a long fought battle to cancer before leaving this world. He was a retired military

I don’t know how to describe my personality because a lot of people tell me different things. A lot of people say their first impression of me, is that I’m soft spoken. I like to sit around and observe before expressing myself in a new environment. People say I’m funny and outgoing, but that’s because I’ve been around those people long enough that I know feel comfortable and able to converse comfortably with them. A lot of people say I am very driven and determined. However, that’s the competitive side of me. Out of high school, I was a state ranked athlete, in baseball and basketball. I am now in my counties’ sports Hall of Fame. I didn’t get those honors without being driven, determined, and unwilling to listen.
