Senioritis is a real and sometimes a serious thing. Senioritis is a supposed affliction of students in their final year of high school or college, characterized by a decline in motivation or performance. Many people in the last year of school become tired of the exhausting work they put in and believe that they deserve a small break. There are reports of even people working at their job getting senioritis. Some people believe it is the new word for “lack of motivation”.
Motivation is the general desire or willingness of a person to do something. It allows people to achieve the goals that they have set forth for themselves. Senioritis causes students to lose motivation. Most seniors already have already been accepted into college and have done enough in school to graduate. They believe that there is nothing left for them to do in high school or to challenge them causing the lack of motivation. However, it is not the student’s fault

Yes, some might say that seniors are just being lazy, but that is not so. There is nothing to challenge them or force them push themselves to be better. Almost no high schools have programs in place to help seniors prepare for college (Puente, Kelly). Almost no schools have classes that will make a senior challenge themselves in the classroom. So how do you combat senioritis?
To combat senioritis a student’s course load must be challenging (“Senioritis”). Urge students to take AP classes that usually offer college credits. Encourage going to football games and cheering for sports or even going out for sports to keep students engaged in their school. Getting a job that is part of the career a student wants to go into will also combat senioritis (“Senioritis”). Keeping a student busy while not being overwhelming is the best way to overcome senioritis. It can also help to become ready for college by taking more challenging
