With the information from the case conceptualization it seems like that the 9 year old girl Beth could have PTSD and also separation anxiety with dealing with her mother. Both of these diagnostics would be from the reason of the car accident and how Beth is still thinking about it is and had the fear of losing her mother because she came close to losing her in the accident last year. When looking at the PTSD in this case, I focused on the nightmares that Beth has. She experiences chest pain and difficulty breathing during this time. Another factor is how in these night mares she thinking her mother is going to be killed. After the accident it seems that Beth does not want to leave her mother side, which would be why I would look into separation anxiety. In the book Counseling Adolescents and Children by Deanna s. Beth experienced the car accident that is a developmental factor. This factor is having her worry in any situation that she is not with her mother. In addition, her sleeping habits can affect her developmentally too. This is because she is not getting enough sleep for her age and can cause problems in her work with school. When working with Beth and even her mother I would look into many different theories depending on their learning. The one I would try in implement would be Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) created by Albert Ellis. Ellis wants us to be happy and I believe that as a 9 year old happiness is a key in her life and if she has this fear of losing her mother all the time she may never be happy.
