The Sepoy rebellion of 1857 led the British to rethink their colonial control in India. The people of India fought nonviolently for their independence. Despite the difficulties facing them India eventually gained their independence from Britain.
The early relationship between Britain and India was based on trade. The British government oversaw the East India Company which allowed them to gain more political control as the East India Company expanded. Eventually Britain took over India. Everything was going well until the Sepoy rebellion occurred.
