The emancipation edict put forward by Alexander II in 1861 was an attempt to implement radical change but failed on many extents due to many shortcomings in execution which ultimately limited its success. The largest area of failure is arguably the lack of a social impact as the change was minimal and most change resulted in more problems or was the old system in disguise.
