Child sex tourism is a global issue and has been happening for many years. It is a terrifying issue. These are children as young as 10 years old, who are being exploited for money, food, and resources. It is due to many different reasons, such as poverty. In Adler, Mueller and Laufer book, chapter 14, discusses the global issue regarding the exploitation of children. It tells us how “child prostitution has grown to epidemic proportions both in the United States and abroad” (Adler, Mueller, & Laufer, 2013, p.366). These children are voluntarily and some are forced into the sex trade. This is known to be the “second largest organized crime in the world” (Adler, Mueller, & Laufer, 2013, p. 367).

It has been shown that there has been some form of steps to slowly prevent this from happening but not enough. It discusses how the global issue was responded to by the governments around the world. “ The First World Congress against Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (1996) held in Stockholm, Sweden is often identified as the first international effort to both acknowledge the problem of commercial exploitation of children and to offer guidelines for combating child sex trafficking” (Miller-Perrin & Wurtele, 2016 p.137). It discusses how problems around a child within their society can lead or force them into a horrific situation, such as the sex trade. Unfortunately, we learned that the sex trade business is a multi billion dollar business worldwide. It will be very hard to completely conquer the problem but if more countries impose strict punishment, along with enforcement focusing on this issue; it can be controlled.

In conclusion, I have learned that awareness to these global issues are very important in battling them. Society needs to work together, globally and impose strict punishment and enforce rules and fines, such as imprisonment to combat this epidemic. As for the victims, they need awareness as well to have knowledge of the resources that are available to them to help them get out and stay out of the sex
