Sex trafficking is a horrid practice that spans across all continents and effects countless peoples lives. The international Labour organization estimates around 20.9 million victims of human trafficking worldwide. of these millions of people, its estimated that roughly 5.5 million are children. its a growing practice that effects both society as a whole and the lives of many girls, including Ayesha’s vivid and terrifying personal story.

sex trafficking is the practice in which people are sold into prostitution or forced to work in brothels, where many people are forced to have sex with nearly 30 men daily. its defined as:

However, though sex trafficking is a problem with both men and women, it mainly effects women around the globe. many people wonder why sex trafficking occurs, and the root cause can be seen vert differently based on where its occurring (as it occurs across the globe). the one cause that can be seen worldwide is poverty. a Nigerian activist by the name of Evbuomwan states
“when families are too poor to make ends meet, girls are often forced to trade sex for much needed money” sex trafficking isn't just a kidnapping and forcing issue, many girls are forced by their parents to enter the “industry”. Women are among 70% of the world's 1.3 billion absolute poor, so its no wonder women may feel the pressure of providing and end up stuck in prostitution, or worse. She was to be married to a man twice her age in rural india, but he misled her into forced prostitution in a brothel when she left to be with him. She ended up being raped by random men multiple times a night, beaten, and now holds a scar from a knife wound to the neck due to her attempt to save a girl trapped in her brothel from being gang raped. she has now escaped this life, but still comments on the opinion that many women choose to go into prostitution expecting this.
“When people tell me that women choose this life, i cant help but laugh. Do they know how many women like me have tried to escape, but have been beaten black and blue when they are caught? to the men who buy us, we are like meat. to everybody else in society, we simply do not exist.” (Ayesha)
