Just Say NO Colleges all over suffer from many tragedies or even hard times, but one thing many colleges don't like to think about or talk about is sexual assault. Sexual assault happens all over, but it is real and happens on college campuses just as much as it does anywhere else. On average, 321,500 people are victims of sexual assault and rape every year. The ages vary from 12 years old and up. Younger adults from age 12 to age 34 are at higher risk than someone at age 50. Young girls and women are the most likely to sexually assaulted rather than men, but this does not mean men are not sexually assaulted. Sadly, more than 90% of those who are assaulted on college campuses will not report or confess. I believe there needs to be a way to …show more content…
I believe there are ways to prevent assault or rapes from happening. For instance, college's should have security on campus. Having security on campus can limit anyone from feeling unsafe. This way, many students can feel they have somewhere to go. Even though, most crimes go un-reported, I believe students can feel they have somewhere to go if things worsen. Security can be anywhere from a person to cameras. Cameras are a way of watching film that could help build a case. Alcohol is a big factor in sexual assault. Sexual assault often occurs when being intoxicated and not being in your right state of mind. Therefore, if drinking, it would be a smart idea to know who you are with and trust them as an individual. Many rapists, are someone the victim knows. Before going out, set up a plan with your friends who you may be going out with, and stay connected with your friends. By any chance, if you leave your drink anywhere don’t drink it after unattended. Schools should educate more on how to prevent rapes. If anyone has ever been sexually assaulted, telling their story and sharing how emotional and how it affected their everyday life, can be a way to help young adults really understand how crucial rape can be. Parents and teachers are not informed about sexual assault like they should be. Colleges are the grounds where predators hunt for their victims. Therefore, high school students should be informed and younger children as well. High school students are the toughest crowd to please, as most of us are just excited to be out of class and use this time for naps. Therefore, most speakers have to come out with a bang to grab our attention. Speakers need to explain to students how sexual assault is not their fault and how they can become aware of a predator. Also, they need to show how to properly say no to strangers. Many kids today, are friendly and unafraid, and I don’t have a problem with kids being friendly, but most children don’t know who to be friendly too and who not to be friendly too. Schools do a poor job of teaching children real world tragedies, and how you're supposed to handle them. I believe many students have forgotten how important it might be to report the sexual assault or how to report it. I believe writing down everything that happened is a good start to coming out with the truth. All in all, I believe writing down how you feel
