Abuse or Not Abuse What is abuse, some may ask? The definition of abuse is: 1.) “Use an object to a bad effect or for a bad purpose” (Google definition); 2.) “Treat a person or animal with cruelty or violence, regularly or repeatedly (Google definition). There are different kinds of abuse and it is all about control. Some of the kinds of abuse are emotional, physical, verbal, animal, mental, child and rape. Non-abuse is BDSM (bondage, disciple, dominance, submission, sadism and masochism), self-defense and constructive criticism. I will also be talking about what can lead to abuse. “Two million women are beaten every year, one every sixteen seconds.” (Beck/Ingrassia, 1994) Abuse is ugly or is it? I want to explore this awkward topic as usually the general public turns away from this word that plagues our society. Abuse takes diverse forms by the abuser or the abused: mental, physical and consensual will be argued in this paper I am writing. Please have an open mind while you scrutinize my paper. Some men that are being abused by women hide the abuse because of ego and machoism. Abuse can happen to anyone: high profile people, the rich, the poor, the educated, the uneducated, the employed, the unemployed, the religious and no religion; abuse is in every walk of life. Abuse is often three generations which starts with the grandparents and then most likely their daughter or son marries a person that abuses her or him. Together they will abuse their children. Some men or young boys get angry when they see their father physically abuse or beat their mother or vice a versa. President Bill Clinton had to watch his father beat his mother as a teenager.
