Arguably one of the most well-known detective groups in the genre of children’s mystery is a group of four teenage detectives and their very famous dog who solve local, national, and international crimes by simply splitting up and searching for clues. This mystery solving group, better known as Mystery Incorporated, has been a Saturday morning hit since the end of the late 1960s (“Scooby Doo History”). Many parents and children are fans of the Scooby Doo franchise because it “encourages [children] to deduce a solution from provided clues,” (Brindza) meaning Scooby Doo and his friends allow even the youngest of children to exercise their minds and learn how to use problem solving techniques.
The Mystery Inc. detective group has a total of five detectives, four of which are teenagers and one that is a talking dog. Scooby-Doo, a very large Great Dane, is perhaps the most iconic member of Mystery Inc. known for his incredible, never-ending desire to eat and the lack of courage Scooby is perhaps the most comical member of the gang. The second member of Mystery Inc. is Shaggy Rogers, Shaggy is most easily described as the stereotypical lazy teenager.
