Description of data I met with Hunter on Tuesday, October 28th and Thursday, October 30. On Tuesday, we completed the QRI-5 Oral Narrative and the Shea Modified Running Record. We then completed the Venn diagram on Thursday. On Tuesday, we started with the QRI-5 oral narrative. I had Hunter start with the 4th grade level text “Johnny Appleseed” because that is where he achieved independent level with the word list. I was surprised with the way this went. I thought he would do well and we would move onto the 5th grade passage but he didn’t. He did really well on reading the passage but his comprehension wasn’t very good. He made 12 errors for a 96% accuracy reading. Although it only counted as one error; he skipped an entire line. This is something that I knew I would have to watch for based our last session. He did a very good job reading this passage. He only had one mistake in 67 words and the only mistake he made was the person’s name. His overall score for the passage was 98%. When we got done reading I asked him to tell me what the passage was about. He wasn’t able to tell me a lot of details but he was able to say a couple things and according to what he read his answers make sense. After answering the questions, we had to end the session. On Thursday, we continued with the session and since he did well on Tuesday, we only had to complete the Venn diagram. We did the Venn diagram using two different Hamster books. The books had similarities and differences, some of which were obvious. Overall the new “white” book had more pictures and more color than the old “red” book. The old “red” book is a good book, but for an elementary student has more words than pictures. Hunter liked the new “white” book a lot better than he did the old “red”
