Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, this virus also causes chickenpox. Although, unlike chickenpox, it is possible to have shingles more than once. Shingles being a reactivation of the chickenpox virus, it will stay in a person’s body for all of their life after having chickenpox and come back and start attacking a body again and cause redness and itching to the skin; it causes an agonizing red rash to the skin also. That being said, when the virus returns, it will only cause shingles and not chickenpox. When this reaction occurs with the Most of the time this rash may occur around the abdomen area but may be found all over the body.
