What effect do shipwrecks have on humans? It was a question that was posed during the first session for the classical symposium Shipwreck, Survival, and Storytelling in Homer, the Renaissance, and the Modern World by Professor Morrison. Most of the lecture was focused on the transformations experienced by survivors of shipwrecks. He used an eclectic array of examples such as the main character of the 2000 film Cast Away Chuck Noland to Viola from Twelfth Night to Odysseus from Homer's The Odyssey, all of these characters were meant to draw parallels and further the stance that was presented to us in the beginning.
