Being an American can mean many things but that dose not mean that we all have to be the same. Many americans have different backgrounds. In the two texts given they each have characters that are from different ethnicity's, in the story Response to Executive Order 9066 there is a little Japanese girl that if friend with a little white girl. And as for the short story Mericans it is about a little boy who is Mexican American.
The definition of being an American is not truly specific due to the fact that America was built off of immigrants. In the story Response to Executive Order 9066 little kids would be friend with all types of people from different races for example in the story it really all about a friendship of a little white girl and little Japanese girl. They may be different races but they can still be bestfriends. It truly shows that their friendship is strong when the Japanese girl was being sent off to a camp because she was Japanese and this occurred because of the bombing on pearl harbor, she had given her bestfriend ,the little white girl, a bag of seed and had told her that when the first tomato grew that she would probably still not be back to

Church is one thing that does bring a lot of people together. There are many religions in America and many people follow different ones but a lot of those people do share the same religion, regardless of where they come from. This shows that being American it does not matter what religion you are but the fact that people have something in common and communicated with each other helps this idea. For example toward the end of this story a lady asks a kid if he would like a piece of gum and he says yes, the lady was surprised because they looked like they were only Mexican, come to find out they are both American and Mexican. This simply shows that you do not have to be fully white to be American as many stereotypical people would
