In the short story Where are you going, Where have you been? By Joyce Carol Oats ,is about a young girl who who argues with her family and thinks she's older and mature then the is. She has a “I do what I want” kind of attitude. The day her father dropped her off at the mall with her friend, she walked across the highway to a drive in restaurant in hopes to scope out some boys without her parents knowing she was doing so because she knew she was not suppose to be doing it. She ended up talking to someone and left with him. His name was Eddie and they spent a few hours together and everything seemed to be going smoothly. This guy ended up showing up at Connie’s house later in the day and started threatening her which ended up getting violent very quickly. Connie is unaware how men act and speak and what they are capable of doing. Men have had the idea of being abusive or over protective which Connie was not going to expect. While all this was happening Arnold’s friend Ellie waited in the car for him to come out. Connie at first tried to stay as calm as possible but being only fifteen years of age the immaturity came out right away as she started to yell for her mother. Arnold eventually overpowered Connie and she was at a lost of words and did not know what to do next. This is why you can not put yourself in positions where you know something could go wrong, especially lying to your parents where you are and then no one knows where you are if something bad were
