August 1914, Britain, France, Serbia and Russia who was part of an alliance called the Trip Entente declared war on Germany. At this time Germany sided with Austria-Hungary and Italy. Since Canada was under the British Empire, they had to join the war no matter what. It was just like Deja vu to Canadians.
