Should we eliminate the Electoral College?

In the American Presidential elections today, the person elected is determined by the number of electoral votes that they receive from the 50 American states. Anyone running for president needs to have 270 out of 540 votes to be granted the job of being America’s president for the next four years. Having the popular vote of American people is not enough for the job. The election should be based on the popular vote rather than basing it on the electoral college because it’s the people's vote that matters. The rule should be: the person with the majority amount of votes should win the election.
Since the the 1800s, the electoral college has proven it’s worth. It has been working for a very long time and helps decide the presidential election very quickly and certainly. In the last election, the two candidates were not very favored by the people but one was more than the other. Hillary Clinton had received more votes than Donald trump in the popular, but still lost the election because she didn’t have nearly the same amount of electoral college votes. The Direct Vote and Plurality Vote is a better idea than the electoral election because the Direct Vote winner is determined by the popular vote only and not the electoral college. This means that Hillary Clinton would have won the 2016 presidential election because it would be based on popular vote which is in other words, the will of the nation to pick a candidate they seem worthy. With this rule, more people will vote and the election will be made easier.
