Overtime we have been back, and forth with the idea that high school athletes should be drug tested. Using drugs can alter an athlete's performance, cause life threatening problems, and influence other athletes. The athletes should be drug tested.
First off, using drugs can change the way an athlete performs, and have long lasting effects on things such as academics, can impair their judgement. For example Roger Clemens, one of the best pitchers in the league during the 1980s and 1990s, and started to use steroids when he noticed a decline in his performance. He was also named in the “Mitchell Report” 80 times for taking the drugs to increase his performance. He was taken to court and lied under oath and was charged with perjury.
