Should School Start Later?

For the first time, the Center of Disease Control and Prevention is urging school districts and policymakers to push back start times after a study of public schools across the country found that more than seventy-five percent started before eight thirty AM in more than forty states. Even though starting school later would have many benefits, some people still question whether school should or should not start later. On the other side of the debate, some people think school should not start later because it affects extracurricular activities, it interferes with parent work schedules, and because there could be complications with transportation. Nevertheless, it is extremely essential that schools should start later because sleep is essential, teens could cut back on unhealthy activities and habits, and because students wouldn’t be so rushed in the morning.

This means it is extremely essential that school start times are pushed back because students would not be rushed, teenagers could cut back on unhealthy activities, and because sleep is essential. Then, maybe one day, if school did start later, kids would be getting enough sleep at night, they would be healthy and happy, they would have extra times for their studies, and students wouldn’t have time to do things that could potentially harm their health.
