Every year about 850,000 teen pregnancies and 9.1 million STDs are experienced by individuals under 25 in the US. Sex education should be mandatory in all high schools. It’s important for teens to learn about STDs, abstinence, pregnancy and many other sex related topics. Getting this information from a certified teacher would give student accurate facts instead of them gathering it from uncredible sources such as friends, television, movies and media. Educating all students about sex definitely could decrease the rate of teen pregnancy and the spread of STDs.

The importance of students learning about STDs should definitely be mandatory. Many teens across the United States aren’t aware of how risky having sex could be. There are over 20 types of sexually transmitted diseases and many ways to catch them. Many of these diseases are fatal and can not be cured. People don’t need to have actual intercourse to be infected; pre-ejaculate is another way these diseases can be transferred. There are teens who aren’t aware of this and if they were then they would be at lesser risk.

They feel like they should be the only ones educating their children about a topic so personal. Different families have different beliefs and they don’t feel comfortable with their children being taught something they don’t necessarily agree with. The truth of the matter is sex is sex no matter what you believe in. There are still going to be diseases, pregnancy and sex no matter what. You can teach your child whatever you want and make them believe whatever but that will not be enough to control them completely. They will still be curious about sex and want to know more.
