Should the United States have joined the league of Nations in 1919?

In 1919 President Wilson assembled the league of Nations. The league of Nations was a defensive alliance created to prevent war from breaking out. If a country was attacked the other countries in the alliance would help out. But congress said no. Why didn’t the United States join?

There is an obvious answer to that though. The United States had no threats whatsoever. They were surrounded by two massive oceans the Atlantic and Pacific and by Alaska and Mexico who would never even try to invade. So truly the United States would only be giving in this alliance and not getting anything out of it.
