Life is about choices. Everyone has to make choices, whether it’s choosing to go to school or not or choosing what sized soda you would like to have with dinner. There are people such as the mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, who are trying to minimize people’s options by putting a regulation on the sizes of soda people can buy. While some believe a ban on soda would be beneficial to people's health, the ban would take away from people's freedoms, will have very limited effect, and will eventually start to snowball. A ban on sada would strip from peoples rights and freedoms. According to Sidney Anne Stone in “Ban the Ban!”, ”People might think it is not important because its just soda but it is so much more than that-it is about freedom and the freedom to make your own decisions about what you do and what you put into your bodies.” An option is the freedom to make a choice. In “Ban the Ban!”, Sidney Anne Stone states, “I have said it before and I will say it again, once you allow the government to make choices on your behalf, it becomes a very slippery slope.” In this piece of evidence, Stone is saying that if people let the government make choices for themselves now, they will take full control in the future. This goes to show why people can’t let this soda ban be implemented into our daily lives. To add on, according to, “Soda’s a Problem but…”, “That still leaves the question of whether governments or their leaders can begin dictating the look of an individual’s meal, the portion sizes for each aspect.” This goes to show why the government should not be able to control people like that.
