Death is the one thing we know for sure is consistent in our world. For surely dying is inevitable. The fear of dying is a common thread that binds us all. Maybe, it has to do with the fact that we do not know what comes after death or maybe it is the pain that might come with it. Regardless, whether it is both or a combination of both, the unknown state of the human consciousness of the afterlife creates this fear. There are a variety of religions that have their own view point of afterlife. It might be the perception of heaven/hell, reincarnation or ….. Regardless of the perception religion is a major part of life and death. The motivation of selecting the category view of the afterlife is to discuss and provide clarifications about these religions; how they are similar and different in the view of the concept of the afterlife.

For many religions what you do in life directly impacts what will happen in death. Confucianism and Daoism (Taoism) death is sometimes viewed as nothing more than a life philosophy, but for many people these are very much a religious way of life. Taoism tries to see how a person can live eternity, that the soul lives on and survives after death. Confucianism on the other hand is meant to be worshiped by their descendants and families. Taoism is based on living a harmonious life with nature. Confucianism was based on the early teachings of Daoism. Eventually following the way (Tao) led to try to make society a harmonious one through the five key relationships of Confucianism. Even though both religions follow their own guidelines, many people incorporate both traits of both religion in order to live harmoniously in every aspect of their life. Although reincarnation is not a belief between these two religions, Buddhism is followed my many practitioners of Confucianism and
