Themes show what the subject of the story is going to be about. Many stories share the same kind of theme; in Frankenstein and in Antigone, they share a couple similar themes. Tragedy and secrecy are two themes these two stories share. For instance, tragedy is a concept that happens many times throughout the two books. In Frankenstein, Victor lost many of his loved ones because he abandoned his monster and it wanted to seek revenge. The monster killed his brother William, Justine, his best friend Henry Clerval, and Elizabeth who was the love of his life. His mother died because of a sickness and his father dies of old age. Victor Frankenstein created a monster and then abandoned it because he was afraid of it. Later in the book, Victor’s little brother William gets killed by the monster. Justine gets accused of it and executed even though, Victor knew she was innocent. Victor kept the secret about the monster to himself the whole time. He was too scared to tell anybody because he did not want to be hated by everyone he cared about. Victor’s secret is kept to himself for a very long time. When he was going to tell Elizabeth about it after their wedding, it was too late because she was also murdered by the monster. Similarly in Antigone, Antigone wants to secretly bury her dead brother because she knows he died with honor. She tells her sister Ismene what her plan was but, Ismene knew that she can get killed for what she is about to do. Antigone does not care because she knows it is the right thing to do for him. Ismene and Antigone keep it a secret so Antigone does not get caught. Antigone still gets caught by the sentry and she is sent to die in a cave. Her secret was not able to be kept even though Victor’s was able to keep his in but it ended up ruining his
