In Frankenstein Mary Shelley tells the reader that Victor Frankenstein is a creator of his own. Frankenstein is the creator in the story Frankenstein just like there are designated creators in the stories Prometheus and Genesis. In Genesis “In the beginning god created the heavens and earth” (Genesis 1) The book of Genesis is a large creation story. The story talks about how everything came to be and what had happened on each day, and how the seventh day was a rest day. The similarities that can be drawn between Dr. Frankenstein and God are just the fact that they have both created something of their own. Frankenstein wanted to create something of his own. The myth of Prometheus “Prometheus had created humans in the likeness of gods” (Prometheus line 20) Epimetheus and Prometheus were in charge of populating the earth with animals and man. Epimetheus gave all of the animals all of the good qualities, so to make up for this mistake Prometheus had man be standing upright just like the gods. Dr. Frankenstein was trying to create “the monster” by giving him human qualities and features just like Prometheus created man. In Frankenstein once “the monster finds out what people think of him he says “Cursed, cursed creator! Why do I live?” “the monster was upset with how he looked and was cursing Frankenstein for making him the way he did.
