George Popjoy was only on liberty a few days on ticket of leave, he and a woman named Harriet Trueman were charged before Bath magistrate’s court for assaulting Mr William Harding a medical gentlemen residing on comb-down near the city, robbing him of a gold watch, knife, a bunch of keys, a lobster and lozenges. Mr Harding was spending the night in Bath and was returning home at 12 o clock at on Monday night. In a lonely part of the carriage road, leading from Bath to Combe-Down, by the prior-park estate he was taken over by George and Harriet who must have followed him from the city. Harriet a powerful women, pushed him against the wall and held him forcibly by the throat. She said she had two men behind her, and if he squeaked it would be worse for him. After the incident Mr Harding returned to Bath and reported it to the police, upon three officers when to where the robbery took place. At 2 o clock in the morning, they found George and Harriet searching the road with a lightened candle which they extinguished as soon as they saw the police coming.
