Since it was written by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, the classic fable Hӓnsel and Grethel has been a beloved tale for readers both young and old. Although this story can be frightening to children it has proven to be effective at admonishing youngsters to be safe and use caution around strangers. Despite its bleak and straight forward plot, this story teaches readers that everything is not what it seems. My take on the story of Hӓnel and Grethel starts when a brother and sister are abandoned by their stepmother in New York City, they get taken in by a cannibalistic witch, who plots to slaughter them, luckily good overpowers evil when the siblings defeat the witch and return home to be taken out of the custody of their evil stepmother. After the subway stopped Hӓnsel, Grethel, and their stepmother got into the nearest cab and continued to their destination. As the taxi drove Grethel noticed that they had been driving for a very long time down this constantly curvy road, she searched the recesses of her memory trying to no avail to find any memory of their quickly approaching destination. Before Grethel could get the chance to run, the old woman hobbled into the room dragging a tied up Hӓnsel behind her. Shoving Hӓnsel into a large pot full of various spices and stocks, the old woman smiled a toothy smile and let out a cackling laugh. When the old woman opened the oven to check the temperature, Grethel knew she had to do something quick. Grethel ran out from her hiding spot, towards the woman and shoved the old lady into the oven with all of her might. The old witch howled and fraught as the heat touched her skin, but she was no match for Grethel who slammed the oven door shut and locked the screaming woman in the fiery oven. Quickly Grethel ran over and
