The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest ocean in the world a very long way for anybody wishing to travel across it. But two people made two historic flights across this ocean. These two people are Charles Lindbergh and Christopher Columbus. Lindbergh and Columbus had many similarities when it came to their voyages. When Columbus sailed across the Atlantic he hoped to find a new route to India to trade spices. After many days of sailing his crew became close to having a mutiny. Columbus Tricked his crew to settle. After a while longer with no land in sight Columbus made an agreement to turn around if no land came into sight in two days they would turn around the next day they the new world America. Lindbergh wanted to win a competiton by hotel owner Raymond Orteig to fly from New York to Paris with no stops. In the 1920s this was a very hard thing to do considering technology was not what it is today. This was a challenge to see if somebody could push aviation to a new age. Lindberg was one of many that rised to the challenge. Lindbergh built a plane from scartch and named it “The Spirit Of ST.Louis”. This plane only had one engine and only one cockpit. When people learned about Lindbergh crazy plan they thought he was suicidal. Relying only on his will power to stay awake lindbergh manged to fly from New York to Paris("Charles Lindbergh."
