Over the course of two Criminal Minds episodes, Lo-Fi and Mayhem, the team takes on a case of terrorism. They have to determine if there is one unsub or multiple working together. They look into the patterns to try to better understand their motive, but realize there is no true motive, just a lesson the suspects wanted to get across. After the fourth murder, the FBI was brought in; the fifth death is what causes the Criminal Minds teams interference. A lost foreign man was shot in the back of the head with a 22 in the middle of a New York subway station. The unsub was a man who looked to be 6’1”, wearing all black. Looking back onto the other four murders, there were no connections between the victims. The crimes were committed in crowded areas in broad daylight; staying consistent by occurring around the same time every two days. The unsub did not have a reserved type of victims, it was random, no motive. The sixth murder happened two days later; a man was calling for a taxi when he was shot from behind by a man in a gray hoodie. The unsub dropped a death tarot card as he fled. The two active agents arrive at the scene with enough time to chase the suspect. The unsub pauses in an alleyway in order to shoot one of the officers; once agent Cooper is shot, he is shot by Cooper’s temporary partner. It is believed that he chose the location in order to get caught; the murderer was oddly calm and steady, and he had no identification on him. The team ruled the act as a suicide by cop case, and assumes that it was planned to portray the ordeal as over. The team starts to assume that it is terrorism, due to the multiple unsubs and the targeting of major parts of the city. The unsubs hack into NYC surveillance, and take the footage
