From a distance, morbidness and motivation are portrayed as irrelevant to one another. However, once given a close up of the technicalities of each, they are more alike than different. The drive for motivation has the possibility of developing a new mind state for the character to become accustomed to. In the world of literature, there have been many examples of characters being exposed to a new mindset that makes them think toxically. For example, Macbeth has shown a mind of corruption due to his ambition revolving around the murder of Duncan. Consequently speaking, Gatsby’s ambitions revolve around rekindling a relationship with Daisy, which does more harm than good for him. Thus, Gatsby and Macbeth are fluent reasons as to why a mind filled with ambition can soon lead to being fused together with cynicism.

Macbeth, has come to the sudden realization that the thought of killing Duncan has no affect on him anymore. However, this comes as a surprise to the reader since Macbeth is skeptical about pursuing this action primarily in the play.
